Tweetabouts 1.3.2 released

I've just pushed Tweetabouts 1.3.2 to the market. Changes in this version:

  • Tweetabouts now respects the system-wide background data setting.
  • Minor polish to UI, including tweaks for low- and high-resolution screens.
  • Fix for a bug that led to log pruning not working, causing the update log growing very large over time.
  • Minor update code cleanup.

Go update and frolic, or whatever it is one does with a freshly-updated location field in ones Twitter profile at this time of year.

Tweetabouts 1.3.1 released

Tweetabouts 1.3.0 is now on the Android Market. Only one real change here - support for OAuth, as necessitated by all apps that use the Twitter API.

Let me know if you encounter any issues (I imagine there may be some, as lack of internet access made it particularly difficult to test!)

Update: Just released 1.3.1 to fix a crash when updating location manually.

Tweetabouts 1.2.0 released (and then broken!)

Update: I've pulled 1.2.0 from the Market. For whatever reason, it's not automatically updating location for many users (myself included), and given this is it's primary function - is pretty bad! 1.2.1 will fix this.

After far too long, I've just plonked my Location-aware Twitter-updater application onto Android Market. Changes in this release include:

  • Added auto-tweet (at long last and much nudging)
  • Added support for Twitter Geolocation - no one will notice this yet, but as soon as Twitter pulls the switch, whenever you Tweet your location from within Tweetabouts, the tweet will be tagged with GPS coordinates, making it rather more useful.
  • Tidied up interface to work with landscape
    • This involved simplifying the interface a bit, removing the cutesy rounded backgrounds and stuff, but a few people didn't like those anyway.
    • This also means it's ready for the Android 1.6 API, and support for a wider range of screen sizes.
  • Removed '<device>:' prefix for profile location.
    • Keeping a list of device names would prove impossible, especially with different networks calling the same device different names! (Hero vs G2 Touch, for example)
  • A few bugs fixed whereby it would insist you hadn't specified a username or password.

So, lots of changes in this release, please let me know if you have any issues.

Tweetabouts 1.1.1 released

Just popped Tweetabouts 1.1.1 on the Market. Fixes a few bugs:

  • Updated HttpClient libraries so shouldn't crash on 'Update' anymore (if it does, let me know!)
  • Should now update location with 'Magic: <location>' or 'G1: <location>' depending on your device.
  • Displays correct version number in bottom-right of screen.

That's all. 1.2.0 is planned to introduce auto-tweeting, and maybe a minor overhaul to the backend service as it's a little messy.

Tweetabouts issues

Tweetabouts v1.1.0 went up in the Market a few weeks ago, which was simply a recompile using the Android 1.5 SDK and only had a few small tweaks.

Auto-tweeting

By far the most-requested feature and probably the reason why people uninstall so soon. Tweetabouts was only ever meant to update the location listed in the user's profile, as it's (a) easy, (b) doesn't eat up API tickets, and (c) isn't spamtastic. Manual tweetage is supported though.

Alas, I suppose I'll have to add auto-tweetage too! A v1.2.0 feature methinks.

Device names

Tweetabouts still thinks everyone has a G1, and so (optionally) appends 'G1:' in front of the location on your profile, even if you have, say, a Vodafone Magic. I'm sure the device name is in the system info strings somewhere, just a matter of identifying it! Probably in v1.1.1.

UI

I'm thinking the cutesy UI might also be a turn-off for some, perhaps a more professional, sleek, Android-like UI would be appreciated? Also in v1.2.0.
